Cracking track gallop during the week from Bons Away, who’ll face the starter in the TAB Multiplier Stakes. He went 800m in 51.0 and 22.50 last 400m at Sandown on the course proper, which was outstanding work on the morning. Tries his guts out always and should represent good value on an each way basis.
Octabello will be better suited to Flemington and 1600m in the Carbine Club Stakes, the 1st on Derby Day. Worked with Mactier on Tuesday over 1200m, clocking 1.19.32 and 24.50, under a nice hold. Lord Sundowner worked over 1200m in evens and 11.91 last 200m. Rellson ventured to Sandown and galloped on the course proper over 1000m in 1.07.50 and a tick on 23.50 last 400m.
Each way odds should be on offer for the M Price trained Hiyaam. Rock hard fit and in excellent form, no reason she can’t be in the finish of the Wakeful Stakes. Clocked running home last 1200m on Tuesday  in 1.24.86 and 25.63 last 400m split. No excuses for her, she’ll be in top order on the day and is up to this class.
The Purcel duo lining up in the Coolmore Stakes aren’t just making up the numbers, both rate as some hope in what looks to be an even and top class field race on paper. Both Jukebox and Merchant Navy worked stylishly at Sandown during the week over 800m, home last 400m in around 23.0. On their day, either is capable of taking this feature Group One out. Each way.
Lone Eagle breezed over 800m in 51.11 and 123.28 last 400m.
I’d expect Silent Sedition to figure prominently in the Group One Myer Classic, 1600m. Went through her paces over 1200m in 1.19.20 and 24.51 last 400m. 3rd up and looking super this time in.
Flying Jess galloped over 1000m 1.08.22 and 24.06 last 400m.
Treadmill for Now Or Later. She’s capable of taking out a big one and her recent work has been first class.
Ocean’s Fourteen probably won’t be the classiest horse to emerge from the VRC Derby, but he’s more than likely to run out the trip on what we’ve seen to date. Hit the line like a real stayer in the Derby Trial and has since trained on beautifully. Partnered up with Melb Cup Aspirant Single Gaze, last 1200m clocked at 1.19.75 and 24.50 last 400m split.
Last start Group One winner Aloisia takes on both sexes in the Group 2 Drummond Golf Vase, run over 2040m. No reason she won’t go the extra distance here. Taken to the Valley on Tuesday morning and partnered up with Pemberley over 1400m, clocked at 1.48.81 and 24.21 last 400m. Oaks bound and hard to beat in this. My top selection.
Big watch on the Smerdon runner Nature Strip Friday night under lights in the Mitchelton Wines Hcp, 1000m. Created quite an impression when scoring on debut. Fitter for the run and worked super on Tuesday morning at Caulfield over 600m, stopping the clock at 35.90. Monitor market moves.
Lady Esprit resumes for the Purcell yard in the flying 55 Second Challenge at M.V, 955m. Slick gallop on Saturday morning over 800m, zipping home her last 800m in a tick on 23.0.
Petite’s Reward went an easy 800m on Tuesday in 56.83 and 25.97 last 400m.
I’d expect another good run from the Mick price trained Bassett, 3rd up in the Baisi Fashion Group Hcp 1200m. Eye catching run last start when 4th, beaten 2.2L behind Rich Charm. Solid work on Tuesday morning, when galloping 1000m in 1.07.23 and 23.73 last 400m. Looks ready.
Quality Snitzel colt Ducimus resumes for the Mick Price Stable, ex Hawkes. High class conveyance who goes well fresh and looks primed to run a race on Saturday in the Phonewords Stakes, 1200m, at Group 3 level. Had a look around Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning over 1000m, clocking 1.04.42 and 23.91 last 400m.
Experimentation worked at Caulfield over 800m in 50.0 and 24.25 last 400m.
You could do a lot worse than following Oregon’s Day in the Powerflo Stakes, 1600m, Group 3 for the mares. Crying out for ground and has the miles in her legs to shake the life out of this. Slick work over 1200m on Tuesday, recording a time of 1.18.45 and 24.30 last 400m.
